Boy killed in Cox’s Bazar elephant attack

A young boy was trampled to death by an elephant at Uttar Shilkhali village in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday night. Two others were severely injured in the incident. The deceased was identified as Shamsu Uddin, 12, son of the late Aflat Hossain of the village. Locals said Shamsu and two of his friends went to patrol the paddy field near their house on Wednesday night. Subsequently, an elephant attacked the trio while they were sleeping at around 3:30am. Shamsu died on the spot while his friends, Belal Uddin and Rabiul Alam, sustained severe injuries. Shamsu’s body was handed over to his family members, while the injured were admitted to Teknaf Hospital for treatment, Teknaf Model Police Station OC Ranjit Barua said.
