A suspected criminal has been killed in “gunfight” with police in Abaderhat under Sadar upazila of Satkhira district.
Deceased Nabab Ali, of Bochora village at Sadar upazila, was accused in 15 cases, including murder, robbery and smuggling.
Police arrested Nabab from Mithabari village on Saturday, Satkhira Sadar police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Maruf Ahmed said.
Later at night, police along with Nabab conducted a drive in Abaderhat to recover arms.
Sensing their presence, Nabab’s associates opened fires at the police. In retaliation, police fired back.
Later, police recovered Nabab’s body from the spot while the others managed to flee the scene. They also recovered a foreign-made pistol, one round bullet and four machetes.
Sadar police Sub-Inspector Ibrahim Khalil and constables Ashik and Tuhin were also injured during the incident.
