The Election Commission will not backtrack in taking action against those involved in negligence of duty and violation of election code of conduct during the upcoming Khulna City Corporation polls slated for May 15, says Election Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.
"The commission is trying to hold a free and fair election as everyone’s eyes are on this," he said on Sunday at the co-ordination committee meeting at Khulna Circuit House.
Shahadat also urged all to come forward and cooperate with the commission.
There would be 289 polling centres, each of which would be provided with some 22 members of law enforcement agencies, in certain cases it may be 24 for important centres.
Besides, BGB, RAB and police would be patrolling during the election time.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Lokman Hossain Mia presided over Sunday’s meeting.
Deputy Inspector General of police of Khulna range Didar Ahmed, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Humayun Kabir, RAB 6 Commanding Officer Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, Khulna Superintendent of Police Nizamul Haque Mollah and Deputy Commissioner of the district Amin Ul Ahsan were present, among others, at the meeting.
