A 35 year-old suspected member of a forest bandit gang was killed in a "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion in Ambaria area near Shela River in the Sundarbans.
The incident occurred Tuesday morning.
RAB 8 Senior Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Surat Alam said: “The bandits opened fire at a regular patrolling team of RAB.”
In retaliation, the RAB officials fired back that left one of the bandits dead.
Later, RAB conducted a drive and recovered a shotgun, two single-barrelled guns, two machetes, and bullet shells from the spot.
Sharankhola station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kabirul Islam said: “The body has been sent to Bagerhat District Hospital for autopsy.
“Two cases have also been filed in connection with the incident.”
