Satkhira man detained for torturing wife after tying her to a tree
A housewife in Satkhira was brutally tortured allegedly after being tied to a tree on the yard in front of her house on Friday. The incident took place in Dohakula village at Brahmarajpur Union of Sadar Upazila around 6am. Police later detained the woman’s husband Kabir and his elder brother Habid for torturing her. Quoting locals, police said Kabir used to beat his wife Anwara often over various reasons including dowry since their marriage. On Friday, Anwara threatened to commit suicide after Kabir and Habid verbally abused her. At one point of the altercation, the brothers tied her to a tree in their yard and mercilessly beat her with metal rods and sticks. Hearing Anwara's screams, the neighbours ran to her rescue but they were pushed back by Kabir and Habid. Later, Brahmarajpur UP Member Kamrul Islam called the police and helped locals rescuing an injured Anwara. She was later admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital. Brahmarajpur police outpost Sub-Inspector Achintya Kumar said: "The brothers have been detained. Since this is a domestic issue, we are trying to see what we can do about it." However, Sadar police station Inspector Shariful Islam said after interrogation, legal steps will be taken against the brothers.
