Robber killed and four police injured in gunfight in Thakurgaon
A robber has been killed and four police officers have been injured in a gunfight in Thakurgaon on Tuesday. The incident took place in 29 Mile area of Thakurgaon sadar upazila, in between the Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway. The robber was killed in the shootout and pronounced dead after being taken to hospital. The name of the deceased is yet to be known. The injured officers are members of the Detective Branch (DB), Sub-Inspector Khokon, 36, Constable Enamul Haque, 42, Adbul Amin, 35 and Jamal, 28. They were admitted to Thakurgaon Adhunik Sadar Hospital, but later they were shifted to Thakurgaon Police Lines Hospital upon referral from the Sadar Hospital. Superintendent of Police (SP) Farhat Ahmed organized a press briefing on Tuesday. The SP read from a prepared script: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police went to Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway to stop a robbery that was in progress.” “Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire. The police returned fire, and as a result the robbers were forced to back down, and fled the scene,” SP Farhat added.
