Zafar Iqbal returns to SUST
Eminent writer and academic Prof Md Zafar Iqbal returned full-time to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology on Monday. He joined his department upon reaching the campus, his personal assistant Joynal Abedin confirmed. Joynal further said: "Since he has made a full recovery, Sir has said that he will take classes today." According to department sources, Prof Zafar Iqbal signed the joining paper at around 12:15pm after reaching the campus at 12pm. After completing a meeting, Zafar Iqbal took his first class at 2pm. He returned to the campus for a short visit on March 14 after undergoing treatment following a knife attack on him at a university program. “I am never afraid. I am not afraid now. I will again deliver speeches at Muktamancha,” he said while addressing a reception organized by students at Muktamancha on the campus on March 14. Sylhet’s Jalalabad police station’s Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqul Islam said were informed Prof Zafar Iqbal was scheduled to return on Monday. “Police will be there to provide security on the campus round the clock. We will make strategic changes for the security of Prof Zafar Iqbal,” he said. The academic suffered serious injuries following a knife attack at a program on March 3. He was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. Foyzur Rahman Faizul was detained at the scene of the attack, who later confessed to stabbing Prof Zafar.
