The body of a man has been recovered from Magura sadar upazila, two days after his family said he was picked up by men identifying themselves as law enforcers.
But police say Fakhrul Sheikh, 45, was found dead after a gunfight between two gangs of robbers at Chhonpur village on Friday morning.
Fakhrul’s wife Kajol said: “My husband was picked up from our house on Wednesday by two men identifying themselves as ‘men of law’. After a long search, we learned that he was at Magura 250-bed Hospital. We found him dead.”
Magura sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Al Emran said a police patrol rushed to a field at Sonpur after hearing gunshots in the early hours of Friday. The miscreants fled the scene when police went there.
“We found Fakhrul's body with bullet wounds lying at the scene,” he said, adding that four empty cartridges of shotgun and some sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.
The OC said that Fakhrul was a robber and was accused in a number of cases.
His body has been sent to Magura Sadar Hospital for a postmortem examination.
