Two Jubo League men killed in separate districts

Update : 27 Mar 2018, 11:09 PM
Two members of the ruling Awami League’s youth front have been found murdered in separate incidents. On Tuesday around 8am, the blindfolded and bound body of Mahmudul Hasan Saikat was found dead beside the Dhaka-Kishoreganj highway in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi. Saikat, son of Rustam Ali of South Shilmandi, was the general secretary of Shilmandi union Jubo League and was a jute trader by profession. After being alerted by locals, police recovered his corpse and sent it to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. “There were multiple injury marks in different parts of the body,” Shibpur police station Sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman said, adding that they were yet to uncover reasons behind the suspected murder. Saikat’s family said his whereabouts had been unknown and his phone turned off since he left home at noon on Monday. Separately on Monday, a Jubo League activist was hacked to death in the Saltgola area of Chittagong city as local Awami League leaders and supporters were observing Independence Day on the premise of Meher Afzal School. Md Mohiuddin alias Mahir, 30, was a follower of the late AL leader and former Chittagong City Corporation mayor, ABM Mohiudin Chowdhury. At around 1:45pm, around 15 to 20 youths tracked Mahir to inside the office of the school’s headmaster and began hacking at him indiscriminately. “Mahir was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where he succumbed to his severe injuries at 3:00pm,” Alauddin Talukder, assistant sub-inspector of the CMCH police outpost, said. The deceased’s family accused Iqbal Ali alias Haji Iqbal, who claims to be an Awami League leader, and his followers for killing Mahir. Police yesterday arrested two suspects after the deceased’s mother filed a murder charge with Bandar police station against 18 people including Haji Iqbal.
