Two shot dead in clashes over construction of mosque boundary wall

Two men have been killed in a clash between residents of two villages in Salutikor area of Sylhet’s Gowainghat upazila on Saturday over the construction of a mosque’s boundary wall. The deceased are Ali Ahmed, 25, and Rumel Ahmed, 30, both residents of Mitrimohol village. Local said an altercation broke out over the construction of Salutikor Bazar Jame Masjid boundary wall on Friday afternoon between two groups led by Jamal Ahmed of Bohor village and Abdus Sobhan of the neighbouring Mitrimohol village. On Saturday around 7am, the altercation culminated into a clash. In the midst of the hour-long clash, Ali, Rumel, and another 10 to 12 people were injured. Ali and Romel were rushed to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where they died. Sylhet police’s ASP Anis confirmed that the two had been shot dead. “Police reached the crime scene after the clash and brought the situation under control,” he said.
