Two Hill Women’s Federation leaders abducted in broad daylight, youth leader shot
A group of masked people abducted Monty Chakma, general secretary of the Hill Women’s Federation, and Doyasona Chakma, central member of the same group, from Kutukchhari in Rangamati on Sunday morning. In addition, Democratic Youth Forum leader Dharma Singh Chakma was shot near the Khagrachhari-Rangmati Road. Both groups are aligned with the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF). Rangamati UPDF Organizer Sachal Chakma called a press briefing soon after the incident and characterized the attack as cowardly and demanded the criminals be punished. The Hill Women’s Federation, Parbotto Chattagram Nari Sangha, and Ghilachhari Nari Nirjaton Protirodh Committee have responded by shutting down the Khagrachhari-Rangamati Road. Rangamati Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge Satyajit Barua said he was apprised of the incident and was en route to collect firsthand accounts of the events that transpired.
