Constable Masudul Haque of Barisal Detective Branch (DB) of police has been temporarily suspended after he and several other members of his unit reportedly tortured private television channel DBC News cameraperson Sumon Hasan.
Before the suspension, the constable was closed along with seven others.
Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Assistant Commissioner (DB) Nasir Uddin Mollick confirmed the move on Wednesday, adding that a probe committee was investigating the matter and some of Masudul’s cohorts might also be suspended.

Three-person committee, formed Wednesday the BMP commissioner, is headed by Assistant Deputy Commissioner Runa Laila.
On Tuesday, eight DB officers, including Sub-Inspector (SI) Abul Bashar, two assistant SIs and five constables were closed after it was confirmed that they had tortured Sumon.
The incident reportedly occurred when Sumon rushed to collect footage at the site of an anti-drug drive by the DB at Beauty Cinema Road of Barisal city.
When Sumon sought some information from the DB members on the scene and provided them with details of his identity, they assaulted him and took him to the DB office at Battala before torturing him further.
Later, Sumon was admitted to Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital for treatment.
