Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) professor Dr Zafar Iqbal is expected to return to Sylhet from Dhaka on Wednesday, less than two weeks after being stabbed in the back of the head.
The academic and eminent writer has been undergoing treatment at the Critical Care Unit of Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka since March 3, when he was attacked at a fair organized by the university’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Sylhet.
“Dr Zafar Iqbal will leave Dhaka for Sylhet on a flight on Wednesday morning,” Joynal Abedin, the professor’s personal secretary, told the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday. “He has made a full recovery.”

A youth named Foyzur Rahman Faizul was detained at the scene of the attack and later confessed to stabbing Dr Iqbal because he considered him to be “an enemy of Islam”.
The renowned writer said he did not lose consciousness even once during or after the assault, and was fit enough to resume writing on March 7, despite still being under treatment at the hospital.
“Whenever I started to lose consciousness, I clenched my teeth to prevent it,” he wrote.
“On the back of my mind, I believed that once I lose myself into the darkness, I will never come back.”
