Lack of venue shifts Awami League rally to Patiya from Chittagong city
Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said the prime minister is going to address a rally at Patiya upazila in Chittagong on March 21 instead of the port city due to unavailability of venue. He disclosed the matter while addressing an extended meeting at the Muslim Hall in the city on Saturday. Chittagong city, north and south district chapters of the Awami League organized the joint meeting. Originally, the plan was for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to address the rally in Chittagong city. Due to the unavailability of venues inside the port city, the location was shifted to Patiya upazila. City Awami League General Secretary and Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said: “It is not true that there is no field to hold a massive rally inside the city. There are eight fields as large as the venue fixed for the prime minister’s rally at Patiya.” “A month-long trade fair is going on right now at the Polo ground. I do not want to comment about the venue. However, I am strongly demanding for a rally of Sheikh Hasina to be held in Chittagong in April or May,” said Nasir. With regard to the pleas of AJM Nasir, Mahbubul Alam Hanif said that they would request Sheikh Hasina to hold another rally in Chittagong city in April or May. Hanif also directed the party leaders and activists to ensure women’s attendance at the rally. Chittagong Awami League’s north district unit President Nurul Alam Chowdhury presided over the extended meeting while Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain was present as the chief guest. State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, MP Afsarul Amin, MP Didarul Alam, MP Nazrul Islam, MP Mostafizur Rahman, Wasika Ayesha Khan, Awami League’s Central Organizing Secretary Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, MP Dr Hasan Mahmud and Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury spoke at the meeting among others.
