Six dead bodies recovered from the Kirtankhola river
Six human bodies were recovered from the Kirtankhola river near the Charmonai launch terminal in Barisal sadar upazila Friday noon. They were identified as Shahab Ali, 28, son of Md Amanullah; Zakir Hossain, 30, son of Dildar Ali, and Md Iftekhar, 9, son of Abdul Malek, of Gazipur, Badshah Dhali, 65, son of Khairuddin Dhali of Munshiganj, Delwar Hossain, 28, son of Makbul Hossain of Mymensing, and Abdul Kuddus, 22, son of Hedayet Khan of Lakshmipur, said Bellal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Barisal River Port police station. The deceased are believed to be the missing passengers of a launch that capsized in the river on Wednesday after being hit by a trawler. Divers and fire brigade personnel during their salvage operations could not rescue the passengers until Thursday. Sources said the six were travelling to Charmonai area by the launch to attend a mahfil (religious gathering) on Wednesday.
