Bikers beaten by police for violating traffic rules

Update : 06 Mar 2018, 01:01 AM
Two bikers have allegedly been assaulted by police members at a check post in front of Moulvibazar model police station for driving over the speed limit. Some photos of the brutality that took place around 2:30pm on Sunday have surfaced on Facebook where two police personnel, one of whom was not in uniform, were seen manhandling the youths in the middle of a busy road. The two victims – Syed Masud Arefin, 23, and Sheikh Nuruzzaman, 22 - were also detained at the police station for traffic rules violation. They were released around 10pm, only after their families signed a deponent on their behalf. Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Sheikh Nuruzzaman, who is a honours third year student of Moulvibazar Government College, admitted that he violated the speed limit, and also overlooked a signal to stop at a police station before passing by the Moulvibazar model police station as he was in a hurry to go to a bank and the passport office. According to Nuruzzaman, he lost control of the bike moving a few paces ahead and hit the rear-end of another bike. He along with the other rider Masud was knocked off the bike in the impact, only to fall at the hand of the law enforcement officials. “They later beat and dragged us to the police station,” he said. However, Sub-Inspector Mohsin Bhuiyan of the police station denied the allegation, saying: “I went to their rescue and even provided them with the first aid at the hospital. Before that I did not lay a hand on them.”
