SUST files case over Zafar Iqbal murder attempt
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) administration filed a case with Jalalabad  police station on Sunday in connection to the attempted murder of prominent author and professor Muhammed Zafar Iqbal. SUST registrar Md Ishfaqul Hussain said in order to file a case, the statement of two teachers was recorded and given to the police along with other necessary documents. Jalalabad police station Officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam Swapon confirmed the matter. Police have identified the attacker as Foyzur Rahman Faizul, son of Atikul Islam from Sunamganj district’s Derai upazila. The attacker lived with his family near the university campus in the Sheikhpara area. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Faizul’s paternal uncle Abdul Kahhar in a drive conducted in Kaliyarkapon area under Derai upazila of Sylhet on Saturday night. The attacker’s maternal uncle Fazlu Mia was detained from the Shekhpara area in the outskirts of Sylhet on the same night. Zafar Iqbal was speaking at a two-day long fair organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering when he was stabbed in the back of his head by an assailant armed with a knife on Saturday.
