The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered over one million yaba pills worth Tk33.60 crore in Teknaf upazila, Cox’s Bazar.
During a raid early Thursday morning, a BGB team found the massive cache of the yaba pills near Khorermukh cremation ground near the Naf River around 5am.
Speaking of the raid, BGB 2nd Battalion Commander Lt Col SM Ariful Islam said: “We received intel that a shipment of yaba was coming into the area from Myanmar, so we set up a patrol team in the area. When the smugglers got wind of the BGB, they escaped into the sea on boats.”
Upon searching the area, the BGB patrol team found polythene sacks filled with 1.12 million yaba pills, he added.
The current market value of the pills stands at around Tk33.60 crore.
The BGB commander said the pills were at BGB's Teknaf base and would be destroyed soon in the presence of high-ranking officials, non-military authorities, representatives of the Department of Narcotics Control, eminent locals, and members of the media.
