Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) authorities have formed a three-member committee to look into the allegations of ragging of at least six first-year students by their seniors.
SUST Proctor Zahir Uddin Ahmed is leading the team, SUST Registrar Mohd Ishfaqul Hussain said on Tuesday.
The other two members are Shah Paran Hall Provost Md Shahedul Hossain and Assistant Proctor Md Shaiful Alam Amin.
Six first-year students of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department were mentally and physically harassed at the hands of 20 senior students - 19 from the same department and another from Political Studies Department – from 10pm Thursday to 6am Friday at Topobon Residential Area.

The traumatized victims had been refusing to talk out of fear about their ordeal. Various sources also said the newcomers, all from the 2017-18 session, were also physically assaulted as they declined to do what they were told by the seniors.
The freshers were forced to strip down, cover their privates with paper and take pictures. These photos were uploaded on social media with obscene captions but were taken down several hours later, according to the sources.
Saying SUST had a zero-tolerance policy towards the “rag culture,” Vice-Chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed on Monday said: “Everyone involved with the incident will be punished.”
