Dhaka University (DU) student Torun Hossain, who was found dead in the capital’s Hazaribagh embankment area on Wednesday afternoon, was buried at his village home in Bheramara Upazilla of Kushtia.
Hazaribagh police station Officer-in-Charge Ikram Ali Mia said that they handed over Torun’s body without an autopsy on request of his family on Thursday afternoon.
He further said it is suspected that Torun committed suicide out of depression.
Torun was a third year student of DU’s finance department and a resident of Sir AF Rahman Hall. His friends, classmates and roommates said he had been frustrated over his performance in the departmental examinations as well as due to family issues.
Torun was an introvert and lost his mother at an early age, his classmates said.
They further said that Torun had tried to change his department in vain throughout his second year at the university, as he was struggling with the workload and material.
On Wednesday afternoon, locals found an injured Torun beside an under-construction building at Hazaribagh, after hearing the loud noise of something heavy falling from the rooftop. He died while on the way to Mitford Hospital for treatment.
