SSC candidate gang-raped in Chuadanga
An SSC candidate has been gang raped by her boyfriend and two others in Chuadanga's Jibannagar upazila. The rapists have also been accused of recording the crime on video that occurred on Sunday. The trio threatened to leak the video and snatched away some jewellery from the victim, which she had been wearing at the time. After the victim informed her family about the rape, they chose to remain silent considering the honour and family name. Two days later on Tuesday afternoon, the boyfriend called up the victim, promising the return of her jewellery. The family of victim with the help of the locals then caught the accused and handed him over to the police. According to the victim’s family, 25-year-old Ariful Islam Arif, a shop worker and son of late Abdus Salam of Rakhal Shah Para of Alipur village, had lured the victim into a relationship with him. Last Sunday, after the victim returned home after her SSC ICT exam, Arif called her up and asked to meet. They then went to Mathpara in Khayerhuda village. The two other accused, Sirajul, 28, son of Abdur Rashid Dewan, and Jewel, 23, son of Azil Hossain, were already hiding in a cornfield in Mathpara. Sirajul and Jewel then raped the girl while Arif recorded. Later, Arif engaged in the crime himself. The three then left on a motorcycle. When the victim informed her family about the matter, they along with the help of the villagers caught Arif and handed him over to police. Later during initial questioning, Arif admitted to raping the SSC candidate along with his friends. Ward Councilor Aftab Uddin of Jibanagar upazila confirmed the matter of initial investigation. Jibannagar police station Officer-in-Charge Mahmudur Rahman said: "A rape case has been filed against the three on Tuesday night. "Arif was sent to the court in Chuadanga on Wednesday." Attempts to arrest Jewel and Sirajul are underway, he added
