Police have arrested at least 233 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat nationwide since Wednesday evening.
BNP Executive Committee Member Khaleda Yasmin and nine other BNP activists were arrested from Dhaka University area around 11am Thursday.
In Kurigram, members of law enforcement agencies arrested 19 BNP-Jamaat men on Thursday morning. Kurigram District Control Room confirmed the matter.
In Habiganj, at least 22 members of BNP and its front organization have been arrested. Assistant Superintendent (Media) of Habiganj police Nazim Uddin confirmed the arrests.
Police have detained 48 BNP-Jamaat men from several upazilas of Mymensingh district on anarchy charges.
In Jhenaidah, at least 80 men, including 16 Jamaat and 30 BNP activists, were arrested. Jhenaidah Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman said seven cocktails have been seized from them.
A total of 21 BNP-Jamaat men including BNP District Organizational Secretary Jahurul Islam arrested in Thakurgaon on Thursday. Thakurgaon sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Kafil Uddin confirmed the matter.
Earlier on Wednesday night, 43 including Thakurgaon BNP Vice-President Nasirul Islam were arrested.
The arrests are part of a security crackdown ahead of a court verdict on a case accusing Khaleda Zia and several others of corruption.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi claimed over 3,500 BNP activists have been detained over the past week.
