Police and detectives in separate drives arrested 11 leaders and activists of BNP from different areas in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj early Sunday.
Abul Bashar Badsha, Rupganj municipality mayor, and Salauddin, vice-president of Sonargaon municipality unit of BNP, were among the arrestees, according to UNB.
A team of Detective Branch of police raided the house of Badsha early in the morning and arrested him, said Mazharul Islam, inspector of Detective Branch of Police.

Following his arrest, police detained 10 more BNP men including Salauddin from the upazila in connection with carrying out sabotage and attack on police, said, Sharafat Ullat, inspector of special branch of police.
Meanwhile, police detained Zulfiker Ali, senior vice president of Narail BNP and former mayor of Narail municipality, from his Adalatpur residence in the district town on Saturday midnight.
Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain of Narail sadar police station said the BNP leader was accused in several cases filed with the police station.

On January 30, BNP men reportedly attacked law enforcers near the High Court when their party chief Khaleda Zia appeared before a special court in Bakshibazar area for the ongoing trial of the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
They also broke two police rifles when the law enforcers tried to resist the demonstrators, according to police.
BNP alleged that around 500 BNP leaders and activists of the party, including its standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, have been arrested since the January 30 incident.
