Criticizing the attitude of Myanmar authorities towards Rohingya people, Bangladesh National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque has said Myanmar is showing duplicity over the repatriation issue.
“Myanmar lacks good intention to repatriate the Rohingya refugees. It [Myanmar] has resorted to duplicity whenever there is international pressure,” he said at an exchange of views with reporters at the conference room of Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner on Friday.
The NHRC chief also mentioned that the Rohingya refugees must return to Myanmar and it is the responsibility of the Myanmar authorities to ensure the environment for the return.
“Facing persecution in Myanmar, the Rohingya people escaped to Bangladesh and took refuge here. The Rohingya people cannot be pushed back into the firestorm. Myanmar must make it sure that they have created a living environment with all the civic amenities for the Rohginya people.”
Earlier on the day, the Reazul visited the Rohingya refugee camps at Kutupalong and Balukhali in Cox's Bazar.
