An 18-year-old named Monju Alam was ruthlessly tortured to death by the Border Security Force (BSF) of India at the Burimari border area of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat.
While undergoing treatment at the Patgram Upazila Hospital, Monju died at around 9am on Sunday. His death was confirmed by the resident medical officer Dr Rafiqul Islam.
According to the hospital, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and locals, Monju was part of a group of cattle traders who were trying to illegally smuggle cattle from India near pillar 836 of the Burimari border around 4am on Sunday morning.
At that time, a patrol team of the 61 BSF Battalion from Khorkhoria camp stumbled upon the group and caught hold of Monju. The BSF proceeded to mercilessly assault Monju, and left his body on the Burimari border.
The incident has been verified by Patgram police.
After confirming the death, Rangpur 61 BSF battalion commander Major Muniruzzaman said that a protest letter calling for a flag meeting at the BGB-BSF company commander level regarding this incident has been sent to the BSF.
