Law Minister Anisul Huq has said the government will not take any policy decisions during the 90 day election period.
“During the election time, the government will provide the Election Commission with whatever assistance it asks for, but the government will not take any policy decisions,” he said while inaugurating the newly constructed building of the Satkhira Chief Judicial Magistrate's court on Thursday.
“The polls-time government will only execute routine tasks,” Anisul added.
The law minister also said he would rather not comment on BNP's proposed polls-time "supportive government," as the opposition party was yet to make clear what such a government would look like.
“It is understood from Article 126 of the Constitution that assistance sought by the Election Commission during the election period is to be provided by the executive department. In all democracies, even the ones that do not have written constitutions, the government is run like this during the election period,” Anisul said.
