Farmer beaten to death due to land dispute in Rajbari
An elderly farmer was beaten to death in Rajbari Sadar upazila on Tuesday due to a dispute over land ownership. Md Nasiruddin Nosu, 50, was mercilessly beaten by his neighbours in Bhobanipur Molladanga village under Basantapur union in the upazila around 11am. He was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, but he succumbed to his injuries before he could be admitted, around 1am on Wednesday. Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Nosu's son Md Rubel Mollah said his father had been involved in a dispute over the ownership of an eight-decimal plot with neighbour Rahman Sheikh. “On Tuesday morning, we were supposed to measure the plot in the presence of the elders. Following that plan, both sides were present at site with their own land surveyors,” he said. “At that time, Rahman Sheikh's sons Dablu Sheikh, Lablu Sheikh and Riazul Sheikh, and their relatives Momin, Shamim, Bachchu, Sachchu, Riyon and Masud attacked us. “They beat my father, hitting him with bamboo in his head, neck and other parts of his body. “We rescued my father and took him to Rajbari Sadar Hospital, but as he was in a critical condition, the doctors there referred him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. “From there, we brought my father to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but he died in front of the hospital around 1am.” Rubel said Nosu's body was brought back to their village later on Wednesday morning. He said his family was preparing to file a murder case against the aforementioned individuals. When contacted, Rajbari Sadar police station Inspector (Investigation) Md Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan said: “We sent the deceased's body to Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police are working to the best of their ability to arrest the perpetrators.”
