Robber ringleader, two others killed in Sundarbans gunfight
Three alleged members of the notorious Sundarbans bandit group Munna Bahini, including its leader Swapon have been killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Wednesday morning. RAB 8 Operation Officer, Major Sohel Rana Prince informed that acting on a tip-off from locals fishermen, RAB carried out an operation in Barguna's Patharghata where the gang had set up a camp. Sensing the presence of RAB, the gang open fired at them, to which RAB retaliated, leading to the “gunfight.” After an hour of gunfight, members of the gang retreated. Later, RAB recovered three bodies of gang members, along with a huge number of arms and ammunition from the spot. The deceased could not be identified immediately. Earlier on January 11 this year, three alleged members of the Sundarbans bandit group Sumon Bahini were killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Another suspected member of a forest robber gang was killed in a gunfight with the police near the Sundarbans on January 9.
