A female Dakhil examinee has reportedly committed suicide in Gournadi upazila of Barisal, allegedly after being reprimanded by her mother over poor preparation for the exam.
Nurunnahar, 16, a student of Magura-Madaripur Nesaria Madrassa, hung herself from the ceiling of her room with her scarf around 10-11pm on Thursday, according to family members.
She was harshly criticized by her mother over her Dakhil exam preparation earlier in the morning, they added.
The Dakhil and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams are set to begin from February 1.
Gournadi police station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that the deceased girl's father, Haji Mojibur Rahman Hawladar, had filed an unnatural death case in this connection on Friday.
The dead body has been sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
