The lowest temperature of 2.6°C in 50 years gripped Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh district on Monday morning, hitting poor people hard.
Zakir Hossain, an official at the Tetulia Meteorological observatory office, said the mercury fell to 2.6°C in the morning.
The lowest temperature in Bangladesh’s history was recorded at 2.8°C in Sreemangal in 1968.
Besides, Bangladesh Met office recorded 2.9°C in Saidpur upazila in Nilphamari district this morning.
Poor people, particularly the farmers and rickshaw-pullers, have been suffering badly as a cold wave is sweeping different parts of Bangladesh for the last few days. Children and elderly people have been the worst victims.
Besides, the lowest temperature in Dhaka was recorded 9.3°C in the morning.
