The government has earned Tk111 crore revenue from the land ports of the country, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan has said.
"The revenue earning from the land ports was only Tk28 crore in 2009, which rose to Tk111 crore now as the government opened 11 more land ports," he said on Friday.
The minister said that the country had 22 land ports, of which 12 were now in operation.
"We will inaugurate one more land port by the next month," Shajahan said, while presiding over an advisory committee meeting on land port development and speeding up operational activities at Benapole port.
Considering passengers' sufferings, he said the government constructed a passenger terminal with all modern facilities at Benapole Land Port at the instruction of the prime minister. "We are also constructing a shed and a terminal for trans-shipment."
Besides, the government has undertaken a project to construct a truck terminal on 150 acres of land along with modernizing the land port funded by the World Bank for smooth operation and it would be implemented by 2018, the minister said.
"Two warehouses, an integrated check post terminal and a four-lane road for internal communication are being constructed at Benapole Land Port," he added.
