Train derails in Habiganj, rail communications with Sylhet snapped

The railway communications between Sylhet and the rest of Bangladesh has been suspended after a bogie of a freight train derailed in Daudnagar level crossing area in Habiganj. Several trains en route to Sylhet and Dhaka are stuck due to the incident which took place on Friday morning. Saiful Islam, Sayestaganj railway station acting master, said: “A bogie of a Dhaka-bound freight train from Srimangal veered off the tracks near Sayestaganj railway junction around 10am, disrupting the train movement on the routes.” The station’s Deputy Assistant Engineer Ruhul Amin said: “We have notified the authorities to send a relief train to recover the derailed train. “We will start the recovery operation as soon as the relief train arrives.”
