The Chhatra League leader who was wanted for the crimes of raping six women and circulating the rape videos on the internet has been arrested after six weeks of manhunt.
Arif Howlader, the expelled general secretary of Narayanpur union Awami League, allegedly raped at least six women and recorded the heinous crimes. He used the video to ensure the silence of the women, but a woman filed a case against him on November 11, which sent Arif into hiding.
For the past six weeks, three teams of police had been looking for him.
He was arrested by one of the teams led by Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Thunder Khairul Hasan from the trawler port in Gosairhat.
According to the police, Arif was hiding in Chandpur all along.
He was arrested at around 4pm on Tuesday.
