Police have arrested a man over his suspected involvement in the stabbing of the daughter of female reserve seat MP Happy Baral in Bagerhat.
Al Mamun Shikdar, 25, son of Mujibar Rahman Shikdar, was taken into custody early on Tuesday from Gobordia area of the district town, said Sadar police station OC Mahtab Uddin.
Earlier on Sunday night, Happy Baral had filed a case at Bagerhat Model police station accusing unidentified miscreants over the attack on Aditi.
Police on Tuesday showed Mamun arrested in that case and produced him before a Bagerhat court with a plea for a five-day remand.
The court sent him to jail with the hearing pending.
Aditi, 26, was stabbed in the abdomen by an unidentified youth around 7pm on Saturday while she and her mother were returning home after attending a Victory Day programme at Amlapara High School ground.
According to her mother, this was the second attempt on Aditi’s life within eight months.
“She was attacked at home first. Someone had thrown a knife at her through a window of our home. She had sustained injuries on her leg,” the Awami League lawmaker had said on Sunday.
Happy also added that law enforcers had also failed to find out the miscreants who carried out that attack.
In August 2000, her husband advocate Kalidas Baral, a former Awami League leader, was shot dead by miscreants in broad daylight at Sadhonar Mor in Bagerhat town.
Kalidas was also a former chairman of Chitolmari upazila and a central leader of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council.
