Fifth grader girl’s body recovered from house of MP Momotaz’s brother
Police have recovered the body of a fifth grader girl from the house of the elder brother of Awami League lawmaker and noted folk singer Momotaz Begom at Singair upazila in Manikganj. Jhuma Aktar’s body was reportedly found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room at Ebarot Hossain’s home at Joymandap village around 10am on Thursday. Daughter of Reazul Islam of neighbouring Medulia village, Jhuma had been living with Ebarot’s family for the past three and a half years after they took her in when her mother went abroad with a job, said her uncle Abu Sayeed. Apart from receiving singing lessons from a local teacher, she also completed the Primary Education Completion (PEC) examinations last month. Sayeed said he did not know the details surrounding his niece’s death. Singair police station OC Khandaker Imam Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune that they recovered her body in the afternoon and sent it to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy. “We will know the cause of death once the autopsy is done.” Meanwhile, Manikganj-2 MP Momotaz’s brother Ebarot said: “I have no clue why Jhuma would kill herself. She even looked okay in the morning when she did her chores.” He claimed he was not home when his son Firoz found Jhuma’s body hanging from the ceiling fan in her room around 10am Thursday.
