Police have arrested Tara Miah, vice chairman of Bahubal upazila in Habiganj, and his associate Shahed Ali, in connection with a case filed for assaulting female lawmaker Amatul Kibria Keya, from Dhaka on Tuesday night.
A team of detectives from Habiganj, supported by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, detained Tara and Shahed, also a member of the Zila Parishad, from Dhaka’s Kadamtoli area around 11pm, confirmed Habinganj DB’s Officer-in-charge and investigating officer of the case Shah Alam.
Tara and Shahed have already been escorted to Habiganj, and were produced before a court of the district on Wednesday with a 10-day remand petition.

Earlier on November 26, the same court sent Jasim Uddin, Tara Miah’s driver and also accused in the case, to jail after rejecting his bail petition.
On November 10, Tara Miah and his followers allegedly assaulted Amatul Kibria Keya, member of parliament for female reserve seat-28 [Sylhet-Habiganj], while she was distributing cheques to fire victims at Mirpur Bedepalli in Bahubal upazila.
Keya said the attackers snatched her mobile phone during the attack.
A case was filed in this connection on November 18.
