1,457 endangered birds, animals recovered in Chittagong
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday recovered 1,450 birds of various endangered species and seven different types of animals after conducting a mobile court drive at a market in Chittagong. Acting on a tip-off, the mobile court led by executive magistrate Anisur Rahman conducted the drive at Nupur Market of Riazuddin Bazar, under Kotowali police station in the city, and recovered the birds and animals. The mobile court, conducted with the help of the Forest Department, also fined five animal and bird traders Tk50,000 each on charges of illegally stocking endangered birds and animals for the purpose of sale. The fined traders were identified as Zafar Ahmed, 55, Md Yousuf, 36, Md Ali, 60, Imran Ali, 28, and Irfan Ali, 21. The recovered birds and animals were freed in the presence of the executive magistrate and the fines were deposited to the government exchequer.
