Mentally challenged mother stabs infant to death
A mentally challenged woman has stabbed her six-month-old infant child to death in Jamalpur's Melandaha upazila. Quoting locals, police said Meem, 20, suddenly took her son, Mamun, to the yard of her father's residence in Mallikatanga village and started stabbing him with a chopper around 5pm on Monday. The boy died on the spot in the presence of onlookers. Upon receiving the information, police detained Meem from the house. She was in the process of being interrogated by police, said Melandaha police station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Karim. Family members and locals claimed that Meem was a mentally challenged woman. Her husband Rashedul came to learn of the matter only after their marriage took place. Rashedul had sent Meem to her father's residence in Mallikatanga village, where she gave birth to the six-month-old boy.
