A father has killed his seven-month-old son by throwing him against a tube well in Satkhira's Kaliganj upazila.
Police and locals said Kader Ali, 35, started behaving abnormally and threw his son, Zunaed, against the tube well at his father-in-law's residence twice, at Kalikapur village on Monday afternoon.
Blood was coming out from the nose and mouth of the boy when some relatives rescued him and whisked him off to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex. Later, the boy was being shifted to Sadar Hospital, as his condition had deteriorated, when he died, said Shyamnagar Health Complex's Sub-Assistant Community Medical Officer Shakir Hossain.
Syamnagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Abdul Mannan said the accused Kader Ali hails from Shyamnagar upazila but the incident took place at his father-in-law's residence in neighbouring Kaliganj upazila.
Kaliganj police station OC Subir Dutt said they had already detained Kader and were preparating to file a case in connection with the infanticide.
