Rail communication between Khulna and the rest of the country has been restored more than nine hours after it came to a halt as two freight trains collided head-on near Darshana railway station in Chuadanga..
Hafizur Rahman, the station master, confirming the update, said train services finally resumed around 3:30pm on Saturday.
The development came after a salvage train from Ishwardi railway station rescued both the cargo trains spending three hours of hectic efforts.
The accident occurred when a Parbatipur-bound train, carrying oil, collided with another goods-laden train, coming from the opposite direction around 6am, snapping the train services on Khulna-Dhaka, Khulna-Rajshahi, Khulna-Saidpur, Khulna-Parbatipur and Khulna-Rangpur routes.
Raihan Hasan, driver of the oil-laden train, and Railway Security Force members Sarwar Hossain and Matiur Hossain, who were injured in the accident, have been admitted to Chudanga Sadar Hospital.
According to Raihan, Darshana station did not transmit any signal not to enter Chuadanga railway station.
Meanwhile, railway authorities suspended three people and formed a probe committee over the incident, asking it to submit a report within seven days.
Details about the committee and identity of the suspended people could not be known immediately.
