A Kushtia court has sentenced two people to death and handed life-time imprisonment to eight others over the killing of a North South University (NSU) student in 2014.
Kushtia Additional District and Sessions Judge ABM Mahmudul Haque handed down the verdict on Wednesday.
According to the case statement, the convicts kidnapped Towhidul Islam Lipu on August 31, 2014 and demanded a Tk3 crore ransom from his father.
Lipu's father filed a case with Kushtia Model police station on September 4.
However, the kidnappers killed the 21-year-old before dumping his body in the Padma River.
The convicts are: Rakibul Islam Bappy, Md Sumon, Zuhaim Khandakar alias Shuvo, Hridoy, Sumon, Alif, Sajedul, Nayan, Sajib, Minhaz, and Milon.
Among them, Rakibul Islam Bappy and Md Sumon were awarded the death penalty.
