Awami League leader's throat-slit body found in Satkhira
Police have recovered the throat-slit body of a local Awami League leader from Koikhali area in Satkhira's Ashashuni upazila. Ashashuni police station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam Shahin said locals had spotted the dead of body of Solaiman Gazi, 44, general secretary of Awami League's Nalta union ward-9 unit, lying near the flood protection embankment of Koikhali village under Shobhnali union and informed police in the morning on Monday. “A team of the law enforcement agency recovered the throat-slit body from the spot. The head was severed from the body with a sharp weapons. Besides, there are marks of cuts all across the body,” the OC said. The deceased went out of home after receiving a phone call around 9pm on Sunday and did not return, according to family sources. The dead body was found about 15km away from the deceased's home. Solaiman was the leader of a group of landless farmers in Kaliganj upazila and had a longstanding dispute with the leader of another rival landless farmers' group which might have been responsible for the killing, claimed Shovnali Union Parishad Member Faruk Hossain. OC Shahidul said the inquest report indicates the Awami League leader might have been slaughtered to death. Police are investigating the allegations of land dispute being involved in the killing.
