Robbers have shot dead three villagers and injured two others in two separate incidents at Char Bhadrason and Sadarpur upazilas of Faridpur.
Among the deceased -- Md Sazzad Mridha, 30, and his cousin Sentu Mridha, 28, are residents of Char Bhadrason, while Malek Khan, 35, is from Sadarpur upazila.
The incidents took place in early hours of Thursday.
Ram Prosad Bhakta, officer in-charge of Char Bhadrason police station, said a gang of robbers stormed the house of Ansar Fakir in Mridha Dangi area around 2am, and held the family members hostage at gunpoint.
The robbers looted 45 tolas of gold ornaments, which were bought for the marriage ceremony of Ansar's son scheduled to be held on Thursday, said house owner Shamsul Fakir.
Locals rushed to the spot and chased the robbers after hearing a call for help over loudspeaker.
The robbers fired at the villagers when fleeing by a speedboat. Four people were injured.
Two of them -- Sazzad and Sentu -- succumbed to their injuries after they were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Another injured man, Alamin Fakir, has been sent to Dhaka after his condition deteriorated.
In a separate incident, a gang of robbers stormed the house of one Sultan Kha of Munshir Char area on early Thursday, said Sadarpur police station OC Harun-or-Rashid.
Facing resistance from the family members, the robbers fired indiscriminately, killing one Malek Khan on the spot.
