A Nilphamari youth has traversed four districts in the northern region of Bangladesh in three days on a bicycle to create awareness among locals about birds and nature.
Alamgir Hossain, the harbinger of the “Save Birds, Save Nature” campaign, hailing from Nilphamari’s Saidpur upazila, started his bicycle ride from Nilphamari on October 31 and announced the end of his campaign at Banglabandha zero point on November 2.
Throughout the journey, Alamgir carried a flag of Bangladesh tied to his shoulder and wore a T-shirt with different slogans written on it.
He stopped at different schools, colleges, markets and other public places to distribute leaflets and talk about the importance of conserving birds and nature.
Saidpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (acting) Parimal Sarker inaugurated Alamgir’s journey on October 31. Alamgir reached Thakurgaon on the same day.
On the second day of his campaign, he reached Panchagarh and on the last day he reached his destination Banglabandha zero point where Rajia Sultana, vice-chairman of Tetulia upazila parishad, welcomed him and declared the end of Alamgir’s journey.
Alamgir said: “We’ll have to step up to protect birds and nature. We need to take up more promotional campaigns to that end.”
He also has a plan to travel the entire country on his bicycle for raising awareness about birds and nature.
