A murder suspect has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Joynabaz area in Kumarkhali upazila, Kushtia.
The deceased was Anwar Hossain, 32, from Kumarkhali upazila.
Police said Anwar was an accused in a case filed over the murder of an expatriate named Raqibul Islam.
Sources in Kumarkhali police station said acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area to arrest the criminals around 3am on Friday.
Sensing the police's presence, the suspected criminals allegedly opened fire at them. In retaliation, the police team fired back, and Anwar was injured.
He was taken to Kushtia General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Four police members were injured in the “gunfight”.
Police also recovered a foreign-made pistol, four rounds of bullets and two sharp weapons from the spot.
