Satkhira woman dies after husband sets her on fire
A woman died after suffering severe burn injuries when her husband set her on fire in Tala upazila of Satkhira in the early hours of Sunday. The 25-year-old victim, Munni Khatun, died on her way to Khulna around 12pm. She and her husband, Musa Gazi, used to live in Khalishkhali union of the district. Before passing away, Munni told reporters that Musa often quarrelled with her and tortured her as she gave birth to a dead child five months ago. Musa set her on fire around 4am on Sunday following a fight they had earlier that night, she said. A neighbour of the victim, Marium, said locals rescued Munni and sent her to Satkhira Sadar Hospital on hearing her screams. Dr Farhad Jamil, a resident medical officer (RMO) at Satkhira Sadar Hospital, said: “We referred Munni to Khulna General Hospital as she had burn injuries on 95% of her body. Her condition was deteriorating.” Satkhira police have been trying to arrest Musa, who fled after the incident.
