Update : 21 Sep 2017, 12:01 AM
A local has been accused of taking possession of temple land and building a house on the premises in Unoshia village of Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj. The temple committee’s vice president filed a written complaint with Kotalipara police station on September 17. The complaint was filed against one Habil Biswas, who has allegedly occupied plot no 223, demarking 1.11 acres of land, and begun construction of a concrete house. The occupied land is said to be a part of Nishanath Khola Sarbajanani Kali Temple’s property, which was leased by the government. The committee members have also paid the taxes for all lands allotted to the temple for the current Bengali year of 1424. When confronting the accused about the matter, the temple committee Vice President Ashok Kumar was threatened by Habil. Finding no other way, Ashok sought the assistance of police. After receiving the complaint, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Kamrul Faruque has stopped the construction. Meanwhile, Habil Biswas has claimed the accusations against him are false as he was building his house on plot no 225, which he owns. He has also demanded that the administration measure the land quickly and let him continue building his house. Habil has further agreed to let go of the occupied land if it is determined to belong to the temple. OC Mohammad Kamrul assured that necessary actions are already being taken regarding measurement of the land.
