Army to take up Rohingya relief distribution

The government has decided to deploy Bangladesh Army to join the relief distribution and rehabilitation programme for the Rohingya refugees currently living in Cox's Bazar. Road Transport and Bridges Minster Obaidul Quader made the announcement to reporters on Wednesday morning, after receiving relief items donated by various individuals and organisations for the refugees. He later handed the relief items over to the deputy commissioner of Cox's Bazar district. Awami League Joint Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Organising Secretary Enamul Haque Shamim, local lawmaker Asheel Ullah Rafiq, district Awami League President Sirajul Mustafa, Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md Ali Hossain, and Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police Iqbal Hossain were present on the occasion. Obaidul, also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League, has been staying in Cox's Bazar for the past few days, distributing relief at Rohingya camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas. He is scheduled to visit Shamlapur refugee camps in Teknaf to distribute relief on Wednesday afternoon.
