Indian couple held with firearms in Chapainawabganj
An Indian couple has been detained with firearms at Shibganj in Chapainawabganj during a joint raid of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The detainees are Md Kadir Sheikh, 57, and his wife Aleknur Bibi, 53. They are from Chakmailpur village under Kaliachak police station of Malda district in West Bengal. Chapainawabganj RAB-5 camp commander Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sakibul Islam Khan said he had led the joint drive of RAB and BGB at Bagichapara village of Shahbajpur union at Shibganj upazila in the early hours of Tuesday, following a tip-off. He said they caught Kadir and his wife red-handed around 1am near the house of one Khaled Hossain Babu when they were selling guns. Four USA-made pistols, eight magazines and 27 bullets were seized from the two at that time, said ASP Khan. He added that during primary interrogation, the quinquagenarian couple confessed that they had been selling illegal firearms for a long time in Bangladesh. The duo was later handed over to Shibganj police. A case was also lodged against them.
