Thousands of demonstrators took to the street on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar on Friday protesting the persecution of the Rohingya minorities by Myanmar forces.
Processions were organised from more than 100 mosques and madrasahs at the Savar upazila headquarters and Ashulia industrial belt after the Jumma prayers.
Imams of the local mosques were seen to lead the processions from their respective mosques.
The processions at the Savar upazila headquarters converged at Savar bus stand and ended with a brief rally while the demonstrations in Ashulia gathered and held another rally at Bipile Trimmor.
Addressing the rally, the imams and local dignitaries condemned the recent killing and rape of the Rohingya in Myanmar's Rakhine state.
They urged the international community to mount pressure on the Myanmar authority to ensure that the Rohingya Muslims have a safe return and safe stay in their homeland.
